Bariatric Transport: What to Expect

Bariatric Transport: What to Expect — JAX NEMT medical transportation article

Equipment, staffing and dignity — what changes when a trip needs bariatric-rated vehicles.

The equipment

Bariatric service uses heavier-capacity lifts, wide-frame securement and vehicles built for the load. It is not a standard van with extra straps, and the difference is safety, not comfort.

The staffing

Many bariatric trips are scheduled with a second trained attendant. That decision is made when you book, based on the rider's mobility and the environment at both ends of the trip.

The part that matters most

Riders who need bariatric transport are frequently turned away elsewhere. We do not turn people away at the door, and we do not make the trip awkward. Call, describe the situation plainly, and we will tell you exactly what we will send.
