Ambulatory Medical Transportation

For riders who can walk with a little help

Ambulatory transportation is our most requested service: a safe, dependable ride for patients who can walk on their own or with light assistance, but who should not be driving themselves to and from medical care.

Many of our ambulatory riders are recovering from a procedure, managing a chronic condition, taking medication that makes driving unsafe, or simply no longer comfortable behind the wheel. Others have a family member who would gladly help but cannot take another morning off work. JAX NEMT fills that gap with a professional driver, a clean vehicle and a schedule built around the appointment time rather than around traffic and parking.

Every ambulatory trip is door to door. Your driver arrives ahead of the pickup window, comes to the door rather than waiting at the curb, offers a steady arm through steps and thresholds, stows walkers and foldable wheelchairs, and helps each rider get comfortably seated and belted. At the destination we walk riders inside and, when requested, sign them in at the front desk so no one is left standing in a lobby wondering where to go.

We handle appointments of every kind: primary care and specialist visits, dialysis, chemotherapy and radiation, physical and occupational therapy, imaging and lab work, dental and vision appointments, outpatient surgery discharges, wound care, behavioral health visits, pharmacy pickups and durable medical equipment fittings. Return rides can be scheduled for a fixed time or arranged as a call-when-ready pickup for appointments that run long.

Ambulatory service is also the right fit for standing weekly and multi-weekly trips. Riders travelling to dialysis or cancer treatment two or more times a week, and anyone with a regular weekly appointment, qualify for discounted recurring rates and get the consistency of familiar drivers who already know the building, the entrance and the routine.

Pricing is straightforward — a base fare plus mileage, quoted in advance with no hidden charges. Call our dispatch team or use the trip calculator for an estimate in about a minute, and we will confirm availability for one-time trips, same-week bookings and long-term standing schedules across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida.

Ambulatory transport questions

Do I qualify for ambulatory service?
If you can walk short distances and manage a vehicle step with a steadying arm, ambulatory service is the right fit. If you need to stay in your wheelchair for the ride, book wheelchair transportation instead.
Can a family member ride along?
Yes. One caregiver or family member can ride with the patient at no additional cost.
How far in advance should I book?
A day or more ahead is ideal, especially for early-morning appointments, but we accept same-day requests based on availability.
