Preparing Your Home For A Wheelchair Pickup
A few minutes of preparation at the front door makes a wheelchair pickup faster, safer and far less stressful for everyone involved.
Clear the path first
The most common delay we see is not traffic — it is a doorway blocked by a rug, a planter or a storm door that will not stay open. Clear a straight path from the room the rider waits in to the vehicle, and prop or latch any doors along the way.
Tell dispatch about steps and ramps
Two steps and a narrow porch change which vehicle and which securement approach we send. Mention steps, gravel driveways, gated communities and elevator buildings when you book so the driver arrives prepared instead of improvising.
Have the essentials ready
Insurance card, appointment paperwork, a phone, medication and a light jacket for cold waiting rooms. Having them in one bag by the door keeps the pickup window on schedule.
