Questions To Ask Before Hiring A NEMT Company

Not every transportation company is equipped for every rider. Ten questions that separate a professional operator from a van with a phone number.
Licensing, insurance and training
Ask whether the company is licensed and insured for medical transportation, whether drivers are background checked, and what training they have in passenger assistance and wheelchair securement. A professional operator answers those in one sentence each.
Vehicles and equipment
Ask what vehicle types are available, how wheelchairs are secured, whether bariatric transport is offered and whether stretcher trips can be arranged. Match the answer to the rider you actually have, not the rider you hope to have.
Pricing and reliability
Ask for the base fare, the per-mile rate, the cancellation policy and how after-hours trips are handled. Then ask what happens if a driver is running late — the answer tells you how the company treats riders on a bad day.
