What “Door to Door” Really Means — JAX NEMT medical transportation article

Curb to curb, door to door and door through door are three different services. Know which one you're buying.

Curb to curb

The vehicle stops at the curb and the rider gets themselves in and out. This is rideshare and most paratransit. For a steady rider it is fine; for anyone using a walker it is a fall waiting to happen.

Door to door

The driver comes to the door, assists to the vehicle, and escorts the rider inside at the destination. This is our standard service and it is included in the fare, not billed as an extra.

Door through door

Assistance continues past the entrance to the check-in desk or the treatment floor. For riders with dementia or serious mobility limits, this is the level that actually works. Tell dispatch and we will plan for it.
