The short version
Non-emergency medical transportation, or NEMT, is scheduled transportation for people who need to get to medical care but cannot safely drive themselves and should not be left to manage a rideshare alone. It is not an ambulance and it is not a taxi. It sits in between: a trained driver, an accessible vehicle and hands-on help from the front door of your home to the check-in desk at your appointment.
The distinction matters because it changes what you can expect. A rideshare driver stops at the curb. A NEMT driver walks up to the door, helps with steps and thresholds, loads a walker or wheelchair, secures the rider properly and escorts them inside.
Who uses it
Most of our riders fall into a handful of groups: older adults who no longer drive, people recovering from surgery, dialysis and oncology patients on a recurring schedule, wheelchair users, and adults or children with disabilities who need a familiar, predictable routine.
Family caregivers use it too — often because taking a half day off work twice a week for a 40-minute appointment is not sustainable.
What a trip looks like
You call dispatch with the pickup address, the destination, the appointment time and the level of assistance needed. We confirm the fare before you book. On the day of the trip, the driver arrives ahead of the pickup window, helps the rider out to the vehicle, drives the route and walks them in. Return rides can be booked for a set time or arranged as call-when-ready.
